MusicBlog – INSA – Keep Me Guessing

The Hamburg newcomer INSA released her new single “Keep Me Guessing” today along with an accompanying music video.

With their new single, the indie pop ballad “Keep Me Guessing”, INSA impressively shows how intense and complex feelings can be in difficult phases of life.

The song is about that painful moment just before a breakup – a time full of insecurities, unspoken truths and the bittersweet realization that the end is near, even though the heart still resists it.

The story behind “Keep Me Guessing” perfectly reflects this emotional process. INSA began writing in November 2022, while their relationship was still ongoing. But until completion in the summer of 2023, she dealt intensively with the inner conflict: Hold on or let go?

What’s particularly moving is the balancing act that the song captures – the realization that the relationship has become unhealthy versus the fear of being alone.

Musically, “Keep Me Guessing” shines with a harmonious mix of catchy melody and honest, introspective lyrics. The song hits the heart and offers a space in which listeners can find their own feelings.

The basic melancholic mood runs through: fragile, tender moments alternate with quiet anger and inner tension. INSA’s clear, soulful voice is supported by subtle but striking instrumentation that perfectly underlines the emotions of the song.

The music video, directed by Raphael ZSchätzsch, also ruthlessly gets to the heart of the difficult final phase of a relationship. No kitsch, no frills – just the truth.

INSA and her partner (played by Björn Elsner) are stuck in a relationship that no longer actually exists: he loses himself in video games, she spends her birthday alone. Even at dinner his more practical tension is than the time spent together. At the end she is left abandoned – a conclusion that visually reinforces the song’s emotions.

“Keep Me Guessing” is INSA’s second single following their debut single “New Romantics” from October. While she is diligently working on her first EP, her music deals with a phase of life that is often romanticized as “carefree youth,” but in reality is often the opposite.

With her mix of emotional depth and musical sophistication, INSA has definitely shown that she is an exciting newcomer to the indie pop world.
