Man Utd news: Opinion – “The top three topics in Ruben Amorim’s inbox”

Ruben Amorim landed in England on Monday and as Manchester United’s new head coach stares at a daunting pitch, I’ve highlighted what I believe are his three most important tasks.

Commit to your vision

If United travel to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town on November 24th and Amorim’s team doesn’t play in a three-back system, I would be concerned.

The 39-year-old cannot afford to fall into the same trap as his predecessor Erik ten Hag, who lost his first two games and abandoned his vision of short-term success. He never rediscovered it and is now unemployed.

Amorim must believe in the only philosophy he has ever followed until it clicks, otherwise he can justify an adjustment.

More unpopular decisions

United fans’ love for Ruud van Nistelrooy grew during his short-lived return to Old Trafford. But Amorim was right when he wished him the best and said goodbye. There was no space.

For too long, the Red Devils have been suppressed by their own nostalgia and the desire to repeat past successes. A new dawn must be a new dawn.

The Ineos era has produced a more ruthless environment and that must continue. Further unpopular decisions by Amorim may not be welcomed, but they will be necessary.

Rekindling Rashford’s flame

Marcus Rashford’s performance in the 3-0 win over Leicester City was worrying and left fans praying that Amorim’s arrival would have the same impact on him as Ten Hag’s.

Rashford has four months left before the March international break to impress Amorim and a new England coach in Thomas Tuchel.

If he cannot be revived and a place in the 2026 World Cup is at stake, Rashford could be left behind by club and country.
